With a background in Geography, Teresa focuses her research on the dynamics and management of rural landscapes and agricultural systems in the Mediterranean context, relations between landscape and agriculture, landscape multi-functionality, transition processes, policy and management decisions across scales, and governance mechanisms. Teresa hold the position of associate professor at the University of Évora since 1999, till obtaining her full professorship in 2018. Since 2012 Teresa has acted as Head of the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development - MED (former ICAAM), with 140 senior researchers across multiple disciplines. Teresa has led the integration of ICAAM with 3 other leading research units, placing the newly formed Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) in the broader Mediterranean research context. The research team LABscape – Mediterranean Landscape Systems LAB is an internationally competitive team of 15 researchers including 8 experienced post-docs, lead by Teresa. The team’s expertise lays in rural geography, remote sensing, Landscape ecology and engineering, and transdisciplinary constructions. What makes the team unique in the international sphere is the focus on rural landscapes in the Mediterranean context, and the capacity to analise landscapes with a dynamic systems approach where the natural, social and cultural factors are combined. For the future, Teresa aims is to use continue applying system thinking research on Mediterranean landscapes and to bring towards a dominant scientific position
