Vítor Crista is a researcher at the Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development (GECAD) at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He holds both a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Informatics Engineering from the Porto School of Engineering (ISEP). Since 2022, he has been working as an R&D grant holder, contributing to several international research projects. He was actively involved in two projects under the ITEA/Eureka programme: FoodFriend – Autonomous and easy-to-use tool for monitoring of personal food intake and personalised feedback (ITEA-18032) and MedGPT – Medical GPT: Revolutionizing Healthcare with Ethical AI (ITEA-23020). After completing his contribution to the FoodFriend project, he focused on his Master’s thesis, which explored the integration of generative artificial intelligence and wearable technology to support adaptive health and conversational interventions for elderly individuals. His research areas include artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-computer interaction systems for the elderly, gamification, natural language processing, and large language models. His scientific output includes nine publications: two journal articles, four book chapters published by Springer, and three peer-reviewed conference papers presented at PAAMS, ISAMI, and the IEEE ISCC. Among these contributions, he was the first author of several works and has received international recognition. In 2022, he was awarded the Best Paper Prize by the Università degli Studi dell’Aquila for the paper “A Hybrid Model to Classify Physical Activity Profiles”. In 2024, he received the Best Paper Second Award from the University of Salamanca for his article “Design of a Proactive System to Promote Healthy Behaviors in the Elderly Population”.
