Carla Sofia Madeira Gomes Pimentel

Carla Pimentel concluded her PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2004 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon. After being awarded a Fulbright prize for Scholars she pursued a three-year post-doctoral project in the USA, at Dartmouth College in cooperation with the USDA-Forest Services. After her return to Portugal she developed her work mostly at the Forest Research Center of the University of Lisbon, as a grant holder and contracted researcher. Along her career she published 27 papers on peer reviewed journals, 19 of which as the first author, and three as the senior author. She was part of the team of eight research projects and acted as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in other four, which received a total funding of about 700 thousand euros. These research projects provided the scope and case studies for her engagement in mentoring, including a Post-Doctoral researcher, 2 Ph.D students, several young graduated researchers (8), Master students (6), as well undergraduate students on courses of introduction to research (10). She works within the areas of Ecology, with a focus on Forest ecology, Pest management, Biological invasions and Climate change. She works with an extensive network of national and international collaborators (Dartmouth College, USDA-Forests Services, University of Evora, New University of Lisbon, ICNF, IPMA), and interacted with 113 co-authors in scientific publications.
