Sara Carvalho

Sara Carvalho holds a PhD in Linguistics, with a specialization in Lexicology, Lexicography and Terminology, from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities ¿ Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA FCSH). Her thesis, entitled ¿"A terminological approach to knowledge organization within the scope of endometriosis: the EndoTerm project¿", was developed within the scope of a co-tutelle agreement between the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and the Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes. She holds an MA in German Studies ¿- specialization in German Linguistics ¿- from the University of Aveiro (UA), and graduated in Modern Languages and Literature (English and German Studies) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities ¿ University of Coimbra. She is a researcher at the Linguistics Research Centre of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (CLUNL) and a collaborator at the Languages, Literatures and Cultures Research Centre of the University of Aveiro (CLLC). In addition, she is a member of the ISO/TC 37 "Language and terminology" and of the Portuguese mirror committee "CT 221 Terminologia, Língua e Linguagens" at IPQ. She also integrates the COST Action 18209 - European network for Web-centred linguistic data science, where she currently leads Working Group 4 (Use cases and applications). She is part of the Ontology Lexica Group, the Business English Special Interest Group (BESIG), from the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), and participated in Working Group 2 (Retro-digitized dictionaries) at the European Network of e-Lexicography (ENeL). She has been teaching at the Águeda School of Technology and Management (ESTGA) - University of Aveiro (UA) since 2002, namely in the fields of Languages for Specific Purposes (English and German) and translation technologies. Since 2013, she has also been responsible for the curricular unit of German Linguistics at the Department of Languages and Cultures (UA). Over the last three years, she has attended numerous workshops and summer schools on topics such as Linguistic Linked Open Data, TEI encoding, Statistics in Corpus Linguistics, or biomedical terminology, particularly in what concerns SNOMED CT. She also has knowledge of/has worked with tools such as AntConc, Sketch Engine, Lexonomy, oXygen, Protégé or Apache Jena, in addition to formats and standards such as XML, TEI, RDF or LMF. In December 2013, she co-founded MulherEndo, the Portuguese Association for Supporting Women with Endometriosis. Research areas: terminology and ontologies, medical terminology, e-lexicography, health literacy and patient engagement, language teaching for specific purposes
