Ana Sofia Guedes Gorito dos Santos (A.S.G.G.S) have obtained the Master degree in Environmental Engineering in 2018 counting with a short stay at Università degli Studi di Padova during that time. In 2019 started a position as Research Fellow in InTreat project where her main responsabilities were associated with the synthesis, characterization and application in heterogeneous catalysis reactions (mainly ozonation and reduction reactions) of carbon and carbon based catalysts, Later, in 2020, A.S.G.G.S enrolled in a PhD program in Chemical and Biological Engineering, working on the project "Removal of Organic and Inorganic Pollutants from Water in Continuous Catalytic Systems." Her research expanded her expertise in designing and characterizing both powder and macrostructured catalysts and applying them in different catalytic systems to enhance process integration and intensification for water treatment. Over the course of her PhD, she published 19 scientific articles (11 as first author, with >150 citations and an h-index of 8) and participated in several conferences, presenting her work through both oral and poster communications. In 2022, she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship (a highly competitive program with a 17.8% acceptance rate), allowing her to conduct a six-month research stay at The University of Texas at Austin, USA. During this period, she furthered her expertise in materials science, exploring new methodologies for synthesizing bimetallic metal alloy nanoparticles for water treatment applications and receiving advanced training in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Her PhD research also led to the development of a patented engineering solution for the degradation and conversion of organic and inorganic pollutants (Provisional Patent Application PT 118885).

The objective of the project was presenting Environmental Engineering course and some of the work performed during the course, to students on the verge of applying to university. The work developed allowed the students orientation in different laboratory experiments related with water treatment area.
