Joana completed her PhD in Biology at the University of Aveiro in 2021, which aimed to improve pine resistance to pitch canker disease. Her research interests include understanding plant responses to their surrounding environment and enhancing plant performance under different scenarios. She has worked in several projects focused on understanding forest trees/woody species response to biotic and abiotic stresses using an integrated approach ¿ from physiology to Omics. Joana is building up a strong research profile for her career stage. She has published 22 scientific papers (9 as first author, 1 as corresponding) and participated in several international conferences, workshops, and training schools/courses. Joana has been involved in several research projects (five as researcher) and collaborated with international teams (mostly in Spain, France and UK). She is now a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Elizabete Carmo-Silva¿s lab at Lancaster Environment Centre (Lancaster University, Lancaster, UK), which focuses on photosynthesis research.
