I graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança in 2006. Following this, I undertook an industrial internship at North Industrial Corporation (C.I.N.), a nationally recognised company in the paints industry. In parallel, I completed my MSc degree in Chemical Engineering at the same institution in 2008. In April 2009, I joined the University of Aveiro as a researcher in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, within the funded project OLIVPOL (Polyurethane foams and thermoplastic composites from oxypropylated olive stones). From 2011 to 2014, CICECO – University of Aveiro remained my host institution, where I participated in several QREN- and Portugal 2020-funded projects. These projects focused on biomass and vegetable oil valorisation. In 2014, I began my PhD in Sustainable Chemistry, supported by one of the ten PhD scholarships awarded within the same doctoral programme. My doctoral research focused on the development of more sustainable polymers and composite materials based on 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid. During these years, I developed strong expertise in several areas, namely the synthesis of new compounds, polyols, polyesters, polyurethanes and composites. In April 2019, a became a Postdoctoral researcher at CICECO under the InPacTus project, a national initiative dedicated to biomass valorisation, with a particular focus on valorisation of Eucalyptus globulus. During this period my focus was the development of Tissue papers with improved mechanical properties, based exclusively on bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEKP) and strenght additives. Since 2023 I am a Junior research under the project From Fossil to Forest-Sustainable packaging and products to replace fossil plastics. I have been devoted to the development of coated papers with water, oil and/or grease, and oxygen barrier, prepared from Silica or rosin gum derivatives. I am a co-author of 12 peer-reviewed papers published in medium- and high-impact journals, including one highly cited paper (top 1%) and one highlighted as cover article, as well as one book chapter and one conference proceeding. I have disseminated my research in more than 24 prestigious international conferences. My publications have accumulated over than 1170 citations, with an h-index of 12 (excluding self-citations), according to the Scopus database (01/2026). Additionally, I have contributed to the supervision of MSc and BSc students and have been involved in outreach activities, such as the Chemistry Olympiads, Research Day, “Noite Europeia dos Investigadores” and “Academia de Verão”, supporting and supervising young students, as well disseminating my work. My current scientific interests focus on the development of innovative materials based on renewable resources, produced through sustainable and environmentally responsible processes.
