I am a Biologist and Health Science Researcher with 10 years of full-time laboratory experience from the most basic in vitro studies, to more complex animal models, reaching the translational level of human studies. I've graduated in Applied Biology in 2011 (School of Sciences, UMinho) from which I have received an Academic Merit Award (2009/2010), completed my MSc in 2013 (ICVS, School of Medicine, UMinho) and finish my PhD degree in Health Sciences in 2021 (ICVS, School of Medicine, UMinho). As passionate and enthusiast neuroimmunologist, I have been exploring the interplay between the peripheral immune system and cognition, mainly during aging, aiming to discover the key players on such interaction. I have also participated in a side project (grant awarded as proponent) that seeks to explore the interface between medicine and biomaterials having as main goal the generation of an artificial thymus. During the last year I have been working in COVID-19 projects that: 1) explored several serodiagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection; 1) seek to integrate clinical and proteomic data from a longitudinal cohort with SARS-CoV-2 infection patients to generate a prognostic predictive model; and 3) explored the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on psychological status and cognitive function of senior adults. The engagement in multiple research projects resulted in 6 successful peer-reviewed publications (3 as 1st author) and 1 pre-print manuscript at bioRxiv. I have been fostering my science communication skills by attending both national and international conferences and workshops. I have been assuming a leadership role as a mentor of young researchers: I have supervised/co-supervised 3 BSc students and assisted the supervision of a MSc Student in Medicine.
