Julieta Vartabedian is a PhD in Social Anthropology, University of Barcelona (2012). She holds a European Master's Degree in Penal Systems and Social Problems from the same University (2004). In 2013 Julieta was awarded a Leverhulme Visiting Fellowship to research at Newcastle University (UK). She worked as a postdoc researcher on a European Research Council funded project called 'TRANSRIGHTS - Gender citizenship and sexual rights in Europe: transgender lives from a transnational perspective' at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (Portugal) (September 2014 - August 2015). She was an affiliated researcher at the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge (2016-2018) and a collaborating researcher at the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA), NOVA/FCSH (2018). Currently, she is a lecturer at the Department of Social Anthropology, Complutense University of Madrid. Her monograph 'Brazilian Travesti Migrations: Gender, Sexualities and Embodiment Experiences' was published in 2018 with Palgrave Macmillan.
