Rita Engrácia Antunes Moutinho de Barros completed her Master´s degree in Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering - University of Porto (FEUP) in July of 2021, with a final grade of 16/20. During these years of studies, she had the chance to contact with different professional experiences, such as a 1-month internship at Nortada, a craft beer factory in the centre of Porto. Later, she applied for a 6-month internship, under the Erasmus+ Program, at the Centre for Synthetic Biology, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, University of Ghent. For her Master's thesis, she worked at Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Processes - Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials (LSRE-LCM), Department of Chemical Engineering, FEUP, with a scholarship from the FCT-funded project NanoPurAsp (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031268) in collaboration with CICECO (Aveiro) and UNESP (Brazil) aiming the sustainable nanomaterials development for antileukemic drugs purification. This work resulted in a Master´s dissertation entitled "Carbon-based nanomaterials for the development of anti-leukemic drugs", which obtained a final grade of 19/20. Later, she worked as a Research Fellow also at LSRE-LCM in the FCT-funded project 2DMAT4FUEL (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029600) studying two-dimensional materials for carbon dioxide separation and conversion. Currently, Rita is a Ph.D student in Chemical and Biological Engineering at FEUP, funded by an FCT scholarship. Her work focuses on carbon-based materials for cancer applications. Until now, Rita has published 7 journal articles, presented her work at 15 national/international conferences, and mentored four Bachelor investigation projects and one Master dissertation. She was part of the organizing committee of 3 events and received one award for best oral communication. Her main areas of interest are: biological engineering, nanomaterials, enzymatic catalysis, food industry, and cancer therapy and diagnosis.
