Mariana Amaral concluded her BSc in Health Sciences by Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL, FMUL, FCUL, FMDUL, and FPUL) in 2018, during which she initiated her research activity, with the development and characterization of nanoparticles for the treatment of cancer. More recently, she concluded an MSc in NOVA Biomedical Research, an International Master Program by NOVA Medical School (NMS-UNL), Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in January 2021, with 18/20. During her MSc, she completed three laboratory rotations (NMS-UNL, FFUL, and Utrecht University) and developed her Master Thesis project at iMed.ULisboa (FFUL), entitled "Non-invasive elimination of superficial tumours: a step forward", under the supervision of Catarina Pinto Reis (FFUL) and Ricardo A. Afonso (NMS-UNL), in which she obtained a mark of 19/20. Currently, she has published 1 book chapter, 4 original articles (1st author), and 5 reviews (1st author). In March 2021, she competed at the AIMS Meeting 2021 Research Competition (sponsored by Fundação AstraZeneca) in which she was awarded First Place.
