Ana R. Freitas is an Assistant Professor of Bacteriology and Microbiology at the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS-CESPU) and an integrated Researcher at the Research Unit on Applied Molecular Biosciences (UCIBIO@REQUIMTE) in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP). She also collaborates with TOXRUN (Toxicology Research Unit) acting as a member of the management board and as the coordinator of the Office of Communication and Image. Currently, she is the Chair of the Food- and Water-borne Infections Study Group from the prestigious European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), a trusted scientific reviewer from ESCMID, a member of the UCIBIO Communication Working Group, and an Editor of Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance (Elsevier). She works in the field of Health Sciences and Infectious Diseases and develops research in Antimicrobial Resistance for >15 years. She published 56 articles (four reviews, 1 commentary) in international peer-reviewed indexed journals of high-impact and 3 international book chapters (H-index 22, Scopus). She has sound international networking as demonstrated by her numerous collaborative papers with >100 different co-authors from 16 countries on 4 continents and the regular invitation to act as a referee in high-impact journals covering diverse knowledge areas related to Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (https://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/1330514). Acted as reviewer or expert for different European agencies (EFSA) or research centers. Co-edited 7 special issues on Antimicrobial Resistance and co-organized international scientific events. She was/is supervisor/co-supervisor of national students at different levels (2 Ph.D., 2 MSc, 3 Erasmus, 20 undergraduate) and supervised the training of 3 international Ph.D. (Tunisia, Czechia) and Master (Brasil) thesis. She successfully participated in 12 proposals for attracting national (FCT, BIP Proof, UP) and international (EU, ESCMID) funding (2 as a PI). She has more than 100 communications (oral and posters) in prestigious national and international congresses and acted as lecturer/speaker in 15 oral presentations. She was granted 2 FCT fellowships (BD and BPD), one CEEC-FCT researcher contract, 8 awards/distinctions, and 13 congress grants. Holds the HiTech 2019 program organized by the Porto Business School in collaboration with North Caroline State University and is integrated into relevant Microbiology societies/groups (ECCMID, ESGEM, EFWISG, ESGMD, ESGFOR, SPM). She is the scientific ambassador of her UCIBIO research group and is responsible for scientific communication within social networks of different groups/societies (SPM, BacT_drugs, EFWISG, TOXRUN). She co-coordinated the implementation of the service-learning MicroMundo@UPorto project (involving university and school students) in Portugal through the University of Porto and aims to do the same in IUCS/CESPU.
