Olga Maria Lage is Assistant Professor at Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP) and the PI of the LEMUP (Microbial Ecophysiology Lab) research group that belongs to CIIMAR, a leading research and advanced training institution of the University of Porto, working at the frontier of Ocean Knowledge and Innovation. She has great experience in teaching several topics in the Microbiology field and thesis supervision at PhD, Master or Bachelor levels. Her main interest is the study of Planctomyctes: their isolation, characterization, potential biotechnological applications and genomic study. However, studies with other bacterial groups and fungi isolated from environments like sponges, salterns, grapes and macroalgae have been performed. She has published 50 publications including book chapters and papers (in Nature Microbiology, Front Microbiol, Syst. Appl. Microbiol, Int J Syst Evol Microbiol, FEMS Microbial Ecology, PLOS ONE, Cytometry, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Arch. Microbiol., Genomics, Marine Drugs, J Aquac Mar Biol). She is vice-director of the Department of Biology, director of the bachelor degree in Biology and coordinator of the Mobility Programs for the Faculty of Sciences. Between 2001 and 2005 she worked at the European Commission as a National Expert in Detachment.
