Ph.D. in Biosciences from the University of Coimbra, M.Sc. in Vegetal Biology from the same university, and B.Sc. in Agronomy from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Currently, agronomist and researcher specializing in grapevine phytopathology at the Portuguese National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV) with primary focus in grapevine trunk diseases. Previously agronomist at the Centre Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries under the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture and Sea. In this capacity, operated as a phytopathologist and phytosanitary inspector, overseeing EU plant pests' quarantine programs, certification of grapevine nurseries at both phytosanitary and quality levels, as well as tree fruits certification. Led the regional agricultural pests warning system for major crops, including grapevine, kiwifruit, olive, apple, pear, potato, citrus, and chestnut. Agronomic consultant, planning and supporting field trials for phytopharmaceutical products and providing guidance to grapevine farms. Invited as speaker in dozens of technical talks for farmers and technicians and published dozens of technical brochures on phytosanitary problems. Regular collaborator in local newspapers on phytosanitary issues. 9 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 2 book sections, and 2 books. organized 1 event, co-supervised an M.Sc. dissertation, and received 4 awards. Participated as researcher in 3 projects and contributed to the technical development of 6 others. Collaborated with 80 peers in co-authorship of scientific papers. Integrated researcher in the Centre for Functional Ecology at the University of Coimbra. Sub-convenor of the IOBC-WPRS, Integrated Protection in Viticulture Group. Member of the International Council on Grapevine Trunk Diseases. Member of the editorial review board of “Ciência e Técnica Vitivinícola”; COST association external expert and rapporteur; expert for the National Commission of the International Organization of Vine and Wine; member of INIAV's Scientific Council for viticulture and enology.
