My research, has mainly focused on the biodiversity, ecology, and conservation of Freshwater Ecosystems. Along my career I investigate the causes of biodiversity change due to anthropogenic and hydroclimatic pressures. To this end, my research integrates techniques and knowledge from biodiversity science, community ecology and remote sensing to develop innovative approaches that can help in the planning of conservation and restoration programs and to support policies that mitigate the impacts of the biodiversity crisis. Research lines: 1. Remote sensing techniques to identify hotspots of Biodiversity at river catchments and identify major anthropogenic stressors, 2. Multiple stressor impacts across spatiotemporal scales, 3. Analysis of Biodiversity relationship with extreme climate events (droughts and floods), 4. Biomonitoring and conservation of rivers (sensu WFD/2000/60). I have published 19 papers in JCR journals (85.7 of documents in the top 25% journals by CiteScore; 57 Co-authors; 29% First author - Scopus). Citations = 579; h index=14; h10 index= 14 (Google scholar) Job Experiences: I worked 2 years in Italy as postdoc at the University of Viterbo (where I previously hold my PHD) and at CNR-IRSA; Brugherio (Italy); 4 years abroad as a postdoc and especialized technician at University of Barcelona (from 2011 to 2014), and from 2017 as postdoc at the CBMA (UMinho). I was granted with 3 competitive postdoctoral fellowships: 1 year at Tuscia University; Viterbo (Italy); 1 year at CNR-IRSA; Brugherio (Italy) in the framework of the European project LIFE+ INHABIT (LIFE08ENV/IT/000413); 3 year at CBMA UMinho in the framework of the European project Climalert (Climate Alert Smart System for Sustainable Water and Agriculture - ERA4CS/00044/2016). I was granted with 1 year competitive Contracted Researcher at CBMA UMinho within the project AgriFood XXI - NORTE-01-145-FEDER-000041 (2022). In 2023 I work as Contracted Researcher at Laboratorio de Paesagem (Guimaraes) within thee framework of the project  REACTivar Guimarães - Renaturalização dos Corredores Verdes dos rios Ave, Selho e Vizela (COMPETE 2020). These experiences allowed me to become an independent researcher. I actually obtained a three year Awarded grant project (RIPARIANET - https://riparianet.eu -  10.54499/DivProtect/0010/2021) in the framework of the European Call BIODIVERSA+ which offered me, as IR of UMinho team, the first opportunity to lead a research project (budget: 80,000eur; financed by FCT). I currently (2024) supervise 4 MSc thesisand 1 PHD Student (José Carlos Guimarães Lourenço) at the UMinho . I supervised (concluded) 6 MSc thesis (José Carlos Guimarães Lourenço, Ana Catarina de Araújo Conceição, Pedro Branco Saldarriaga, Ricardo Silva, Diogo Barbosa, Ana Catarina Pinheira Teixeira), at UMinho and 1 at University of Porto (Vitor Neves). I m currently co-supervisor of 2 PhD Students (Vitor Neves and José Carlos Guimarães Lourenço ). I also worked at UMinho, as Invited Auxiliary Professor, in several courses (General Ecology, Population Ecology, Ecophysiology, Spatial Ecology) Solid backround in: 1. Methods for bioassessment of freshwater ecosystem in line with WFD/2000/60/CE; 2. Morphological Identification of macroinvertebrate community (Genera Level for all the taxonomic group); Species Level or Operational Units for Ephemeroptera (1), Trichoptera (2) and Plecoptera (3); - 3. Hydromorphological analysis (RHS, QBR, IHF, IFF); 4. Ecological Data analysis (PAST, CANOCO, R packages); 5. Remote sensing analysis (Sentinel 2, QGis, SNAP).
