Carla ANTÓNIO, PhD (H-Index 21, Scopus). Carla ANTÓNIO (CA) completed her Degree in Chemistry (Lic. PRÉ-BOLONHA) in Nov 2003 at the Faculdade de Ciências Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) Portugal, and obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry in Jul 2008 at the University of York, York, UK. From Aug 2008 to Mar 2013, CA conducted Postdoctoral Research at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPIMP) in Potsdam-Golm, Germany. In Aug 2013, CA was awarded a 5-year Auxiliary Researcher Contract Position (Investigador FCT/IF 2012) and returned to Portugal to establish her independent lab in Plant Metabolomics. CA published >35 SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES in peer-reviewed journals, Edited 2 BOOKS (i) part of the book series Methods in Molecular Biology (MIMB, volume 1778, Springer New York 2018) and (ii) part of the Wiley book series on Mass Spectrometry (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. published print 21 Feb 2024), published 12 BOOK CHAPTERS, and received 10 awards/honors over the past years. In addition, CA has played the Partner/Metabolomics Task Coordinator role in several national FCT-funded projects. Since AUG 2013, Carla António has led the Plant Metabolomics Lab and is currently hosted as a Collaborator at CEF, ISA/ULisboa. The Plant Metabolomics Lab uses established metabolomics workflows — from sample prep to metabolite extraction and GC-TOF-MS primary metabolite profiling analysis — and offers comprehensive primary metabolite identification and statistical analysis (descriptive, uni- and multivariate, graphical visualizations) to every metabolomics project. Great attention is given to the experimental design to ensure that minimum standard operating procedures are included in every study to produce a high-quality, reliable interpretation of the data. Our mission is to bring together mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics tools (analytical, statistical) and biological experiments in plant environment and agriculture, and we are open to academia and industry metabolomics projects in other scientific fields to embrace new organisms and tissues.
