I am a researcher at LIP and invited professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra. I graduated and made my PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in 1990 at the University of Cologne (Germany) in the field of Experimental Nuclear Physics. During this work, I participated in numerous gamma-gamma-coincidence experiments with the OSIRIS and EUROBALL detector systems at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn, Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin, KFA Jülich, NBI Copenhagen and Daresbury Labs, where I investigated the nuclear structure of the High Spin States of 146Gd and 128Ba and developed a set of gamma-gamma-coincidence analysis programs to be used by the entire collaboration. From 1991 until 1994 I held a Post-Doc position at the Center of Nuclear Physics of the University of Lisbon, where I worked on Materials Science, using RBS and PIXE as analysis techniques, and Ion implantation and Thermal Annealing for sample modification, e.g. "Iridium Silicide Formation by Rapid Thermal Annealing". I also joined the European Collaboration on the Compilation of Nuclear reaction rates of charged-particle reactions for Astrophysics, as responsible of the Portuguese group, a work that culminated in a reference publication of standardized data and a data base with Web-Interface. In 1994, I became Professor for Computer Engineering at the Portuguese Catholic University and joined LIP as a researcher, where I integrated the Portuguese group to participate in the ATLAS collaboration at CERN. There I have collaborated in the planning and the development of the distributed computing system for the ATLAS detector (ADC) and integrated the Portuguese Tier2 in the LHC grid for ATLAS. Since 2010 I have been responsible for the Iberian region in ADC (Spain, Portugal and South America). As a member of the ADC Monitoring group, I am developing and maintaining Monitoring tools for ADC and I am the responsible for the ATLAS Computing Run Coordinator Shifts. In addition, in 2018 I joined the Dark Matter group of LIP where I am developing a database to support the simulations of the background for the LZ experiment. In 2006, I left the Catholic University and was contracted as a researcher at LIP. Since then, I am also invited lecturer at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra where I teach Computational Physics and Parallel and Advanced Computing in graduate, Master and PhD courses in Physics, Physics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Mathematics. I am responsible for the Computing Infrastructure at the LIP Coimbra campus. From 2009 until 2013 and from 2018 until 2019, I was elected secretary of the Scientific Council of LIP for the Coimbra campus.
