Mariana Magalhães (MM) graduated in Biological Engineering from the Superior Institute of Engineering of Coimbra and has an MSc degree in Biochemistry from the University of Coimbra. MM has research experience in the field of biomedicine and biochemistry. She was the lead guest editor in a Research Topic from the journals Frontiers in Pharmacology and Frontiers in Oncology. MM published 20 articles in specialized and indexed journals, 8 book chapters, and several communications at national and international scientific meetings. Her work has been cited in over 800 scientific articles (h-index=13, i10-index=16). MM was co-supervisor of 2 BSc degree internships and was the tutor of 2 MSc degree theses, 7 curricular internships, and one doctoral work in the part of cell culture and in vitro studies. Between 2012 and 2013, MM was a research trainee in the Vectors and Gene therapy group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, where she developed her master's thesis. After this, she received research fellowships to work on 3 funded research projects in the field of pharmaceutical and life sciences. During her professional path, she collaborated with researchers with expertise in multiple fields, such as natural products, oncobiology, nanomedicine, and omics methodologies. Currently, she holds a PhD scholarship funded by FCT and works at the University of Coimbra in the field of glioblastoma, natural products, pharmaceutical, and biomedical sciences.
