Ana Isabel Martins Casal Ramos

Ana Ramos concluded a Licentiate degree in Chemistry in 2006 by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, followed by a Master degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry by the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, with a case study in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Valladolid, in 2008. After some years as research assistant in several national and international research projects and a higher technician position, Ana received a PhD grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology to pursue a Doctorate degree in Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, which she concluded Cum Laude in 2020 with viva voce. During this period, she collaborated in Centro de Investigação em Energias Renováveis (CIENER) - INEGI and also spent several periods abroad to complement her research in sustainability assessment for waste-to-energy techniques (Centre Tecnologic Manresa in 2018 - Spain, Eurecat in 2019 - Spain, and Proton Ventures in 2019 - The Netherlands). Her main skills are the environmental and socio-economic assessment of strategies for the production of renewable energy. 41 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals were achieved throughout her career, as well as 15 conference proceedings, 18 panel communications and 33 oral communications. Ana was also part of the organizing and scientific committee for 10 scientific congresses, co-supervised 4 master students and 2 PhD students in the Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering areas and is an active reviewer for several indexed international scientific journals. The periods spent doing research abroad enabled the establishment of collaborations with new international R&D and business partners, in the view of follow-up work. After working for two years in the field of circular economy at INEGI, Ana earned a contract through the "Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 4th Edition" and is now focused on developing co-gasification strategies for the sustainable production of renewable energy. She is also co-PI and and core member of the team in 2 research projects financed by FCT, and member of 7 COST Actions. Ana is currently guest-editing 2 special issues in peer-reviewed international journals: Sustainability - "Circular Economy Strategies for Sustainable Development: Applications and Impacts", and Energies - "Biomass Gasification Process in Renewable Energy Systems". Ana is coordinator and lecturer of the "Circular Economy & Sustainability" and the "Industry Decarbonization" advanced training courses at INEGI, as well as INEGI's representative and point of contact in the European Processes4Planet partnership (A.SPIRE Association).
