Beatriz Gomes Salgado holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Research with a major in Oncobiology from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. Her research experience has centered on understanding cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern intracellular and intercellular communication, cell–matrix interactions, and extracellular matrix dynamics, processes that are fundamental across multiple biological contexts. While her laboratory work has been mostly in cancer biology, she has also gained exposure to microbiology, neurosciences, and metabolic diseases, reinforcing her belief that scientific knowledge is inherently transversal and adaptable, regardless of the specific field. Beatriz has developed strong technical expertise in molecular and cellular biology, including cell culture of cancer and fibroblast cell lines, siRNA-based gene silencing, qPCR, Western Blot, immunocytochemistry, decellularization protocols, ELISA, invasion and migration assays, and cytotoxicity assays. Her interests span diverse areas of human biology, with a focus on how cells communicate and interact with their microenvironment, aiming to contribute to multidisciplinary research that bridges fundamental biology and translational applications. Currently, Beatriz is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra (iiiUC), contributing to the European project SCIGLO – Science for Global Challenges, funded by Horizon Europe. Her work involves research support and science communication, with a strong role in organizing the European Researchers’ Night 2025 in Portugal. She is also actively engaged in public engagement initiatives and outreach activities, combining scientific rigor with effective communication strategies.
