Maria Mendes hold a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, with specialization in Biomedical Instrumentation and Biomaterials, at the University of Coimbra, in 2017. During her master’s dissertation, she focused on mutual interaction between sterilization methods and cell behavior onto scaffolds to be applied in alveolar bone regeneration, developed on ICBR (Coimbra). After completed her master degree, she worked on a Research Project at 3B’s Research Group (University of Minho) on the development of an antibacterial film to be applied on hospital surfaces. Subsequently, she got a research fellow position at the COMPASS RG, CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, under the scope of PROMENADE project (PTDC/BTM MAT/29830/2017). She is currently pursuing her PhD in Biotechnology at the COMPASS RG under the supervision of Professor João Mano and Doctor Ana Sofia Silva, where she will focus on the development of a new generation of micropatterned 3D bioscaffolds for bone repair, therefore extending the applicability of material science to the expanding field of tissue engineering.
