Mariana Estorninho da Mata Santana Ramos

I hold a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Conservation Biology from the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon (FCUL), and I am currently pursuing a PhD. My MSc thesis focused on the control, quantification, and modeling of Acacia longifolia biomass. At the beginning of my professional career, I worked as a marine wildlife and birdwatching guide. Later, I returned to research, first as grant research with the Environmental Stress & Functional Ecology (ESFE) group and then with the Ecology of Environmental Change (eChanges) group, both from the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes (CE3C). During this time, I participated in several research projects, mainly as a field and laboratory assistant. I was awarded a Ph.D. scholarship from the BIODIV program at FCUL, under the collaboration protocol between FCT and Ce3C, managed by FCiências.ID. My research project, supervised by Professor Cristina Branquinho and Doctor Maria Alexandra Oliveira, focuses on the ecology of cryptogamic communities in extreme environments, such as glacial and coastal deposits. I already published two articles in scientific journals and have complemented my academic and personal formation with a variety of multidisciplinary courses, including navigation licensing, alpinism course, mountain first aid, diving, photography, R software programming, remote sensing, artificial intelligence and ecological modeling. My main areas of interest are ecology, biodiversity, climate change, species adaptation to extreme environments, ecological modeling and remote sensing.
