Luís Ferreira holds a PhD in Medical Biotechnology (2024) and a Master's degree in Clinical Biochemistry (2019) from the University of Aveiro. He has 7 years of specialized experience in developing three-dimensional disease models focused on cancer modeling for preclinical therapeutic screening. He has created breast cancer models that combine cellular and non-cellular stromal components of the tumor microenvironment. His expertise lies in incorporating decellularized extracellular materials into the 3D model assembly. He received specialized training in developing dynamic and vascularized models at Harvard Medical School in 2022 as part of his doctoral studies. He is now concentrating on integrating image analysis and computerized data analysis into the model validation process. Throughout his academic journey, he has co-authored 3 book chapters and 12 international journal articles, as well as delivered oral presentations at 5 international conferences. Currently, holding a full-time Junior Scientist position at Cellularis Biomodels, a Portuguese startup that focuses on advancing bioengineering technologies to create human-based 3D disease models for researching and testing potential therapies in the preclinical stage. The main focus of his current work is the develpoment of Organoid models and implementing new improved automated methodologies of analysis.
