José Miguel Cardoso da Silva was born in 1995, in Felgueiras, Portugal, and from an early age revealed great interest in science having won the gold and bronze medal in the semi-finals Olympiads of Junior Chemistry at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In 2013 was admitted to the Integrated Master in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, having completed the course in 2018 with the presentation of the dissertation "Measurement and modeling diffusivities of bioactive compounds in compressed liquids", which was developed under the scientific supervision of Dr. Carlos Manuel Santos da Silva, and the co-supervision of Dr. Maria Inês Purcell de Portugal Branco, in which he obtained a final mark of 19 (out of 20). During his MSc thesis, José studied the effects of pressure, temperature and density of the solvents in the experimental diffusivity of bioactive compounds (namely astaxanthin and lycopene), which was measured using the chromatographic peak broadening (CPB) method. In 2018 he participated in several activities of dissemination of scientific knowledge such as workshops, “Jornadas CICECO 2018” and the 13th International Chemical Engineering Conference – ChemPor 2018, where he presented his MSc thesis in a poster communication.
