Tiago is a Senior Structural Engineer and Managing Partner at Tal Projecto design office in Lisbon and a Doctoral Researcher affiliated with C-MADE. He holds a joint Bachelor's and Master degree in Civil Engineering, a Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, both at IST (TU Lisbon), a Master's degree in Steel and Composite Construction at the University of Coimbra, a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as post-graduate studies on Earthquake Engineering at IUSS Pavia and Topology Optimization at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet. Whilst having taken part in the design or analysis of more than 170 structures in twenty-three countries, his most relevant activity encompasses steel and composite design and detailing, high-rise buildings design, seismic analysis and large spans – including stadia roofs – design (awarded with the European Steel Design Award 2011). In addition to the Structural Engineer job, Tiago wrote several journal articles and a book, produced engineering software, lectured short courses and at university degrees, has been involved in international research programs, advised (four) and examined (one) Master theses, takes part in the Sub-commission 8 (Eurocode 8) of CT115 and is Member of the South Region Disciplinary Board of the Portuguese Institution of Engineers. Lately, Tiago has been focused on seismic design of steel structures, artificial intelligence applications for structural engineering and Topology Optimisation for Additive Manufacturing of steel structures
