Francisco Laranjo (b. Lamego, Portugal, 1955) concluded the Fine Art Degree at the School of Fine Arts, Porto, in 1978. He conducted his post-graduate studies in Portugal, The Netherlands and Egypt, as a scholar of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1981–83) and the Portuguese National Research Board. Laranjo was also a scholar of the Goethe Institute in Dresden, Germany (2000). He is Professor at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and has been a guest lecturer in many universities and academies such as Bilbao, Ottawa, Calgary, Daegu, Sheffield, Manchester, Istanbul, Alexandria, Sofia, Paris and São Paulo. He has done both solo and group exhibitions since 1979 in Portugal, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Canada, India, China, South Korea, Brazil, amongst other countries. From his solo exhibitions, it is possible to highlight the ones in Porto, Portugal (Iter Duriense, Nasoni Gallery, 1993); United Kingdom (Simultaneities, Lanchester Gallery, Coventry and The Gallery in Cork Street, London, 1997); Aylmer, Québec and Toronto, Canada (Intimate Land, Chateau Cartier and Camões Institute, 1998); Rio de Janeiro, Brasil (Mirror, Museum of the Republic, 2002); Riga, Latvia (Recent Work, Latvian Academy of Art and Bastejs Gallery, 2002); Ponta Delgada, Portugal (Under Different Skies, Fonseca Macedo Gallery, 2003); Recife, Brasil (Mirror and other places, Dumaresq Gallery, 2004); Porto, Portugal (Sineva, Sala Maior Gallery, 2007), Lisbon, Portugal (On Matter, S. Mamede Gallery, 2007); Nagasaki, Japan ( Light in suspension, Nagasaki Museum of Art and Culture, 2015), amongst many others. As for recent group exhibitions, it is possible to note the ones in Koln, Germany (Art Cologne, 2001), France (L’Art et la Literature au Portugal, Pignas Cultural Centre, 2002), Pescia, Italy (On Hold, Pescia Museum, 2003); Copenhagen, Denmakr (Portugisisk Kunst, Arthouse, 2004 and Francisco Laranjo, Recent Works, Arntzen Gallery, 2008); Daegu, South Korea (Spring Breeze in Nagasaki, Museum of Modern Art KNU, 2012).
