2011/04/16 - 2011/04/24 Investigates the inherent associations between form, material, and structure through the rigorous implementation of innovative design and fabrication techniques. Computational methods for design, analysis, and fabrication are coupled with physical experimentation, fostering ‘learning-by-experimentation’ in an active collaborative studio environment. Throughout the design and fabrication processes, the associations between various computational platforms establish correlations between form-finding, material computation, and structural performance.

2011/02 - 2011/02 Out of a collaboration between the EmTech of the Architectural Association, London, and the Chair of Structural Design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, a temporary light timber construction has been designed that functions as sun shading for parts of the grand stairs in front of the architecture department of the ETH. It is based on bending behavior under selfweight of oversized sheets of plywood of up to 11 x 2.5 m. The design activates the material properties as the defining element in the transfer of forces.

2011/01/22 - 2011/01/22 The strength of FabLabs resides in their ability to make innovation available to anyone. They democratize access to technological tools and machines and, above all, give people the taste to innovate and collaborate. This “openness” is the very essence of FabLabs and we will always keep our doors open to anyone. Yet, FabLabs should also pursue an additional objective: professionalize their services by helping makers to move up from a personal project to a professional and entrepreneurial project.

2008/07/11 - 2008/09/30 HYPERHABITAT: REPROGRAMMING THE WORLD Hyperhabitat is a model for defining the physical world in terms compatible with the digital world using the principles of a network. This serves to define a multiscale structure that can use the same principles to link any element of the physical world capable of having a digital identity, so that the world can be re-programmed by identifying new relational systems composed of local and global systems.
