I am a dedicated and focused computer engineer, currently enrolled in a PhD program at the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Engineering (FCEE), University of Madeira (UMa). I am a full-time researcher supported through a PhD scholarship from FCT with reference 2022.09961.BD. I initiated my Informatics engineering BSc in 2016 and by 2021 I concluded my MSc with 4 international publications. During my BSc's final project, I was integrated inside a special research interest group (Wave Labs), where I got interested in further academic development, tackling important marine concerns. I have participated in three national research projects and was a member of ITI/LARSyS - Laboratory for Robotics and Engineering Systems R&D. Currently, I am an active integrated member of MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, with its pole in Madeira island. During all my activities I have developed various products which are commonly used by research units around the island and in the Macaronesia region. Such include back-end pipelines for mobile applications to report marine biodiversity and marine litter, several databases for in-field assessments, web-based dynamic forms for surveying the presence of non-indigenous species (NIS), full-stack development which encompasses human-in-the-loop Machine Learning, scalable IoT devices management systems, and interactive Ecological Niche Modeling (ENM). The latter was developed as my MSc dissertation, where I explored multimodal variables, allowing marine scientists to predict the occurrence of specific types of marine species, based on environmental variables and sighting occurrences. I am keen to utilize my skills in both computer engineering and science to be used in several activities for MARE, grow my scientific capabilities and provide practical tools for tackling important marine issues.
