Ana Janeiro is a researcher, photographer, artist and teacher. She develops her work and artistic research within self-portraiture and performance photography. She holds a PhD from the University of Westminster (2019) with the thesis "Gazing at the Family: archives, performance and Portuguese photography (1940-1975)" and an MA in Photography from the Kent Institute of Art and Design (currently UCA) in Rochester, UK. She studied fine Arts at the Universidade de Lisboa, in Lisbon. She is a researcher at IHA - Institute of Art History at FCSH, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and a collaborating researcher at CREAM and the Hyphen group both at the University of Westminster. She teaches in the fields of the history of photography, contemporary photography, photobooks, and feminist studies. Her research focuses on Photography, Performance, Self-portraiture, Archive and Memory, having published in national and international journals and participated in international conferences on these topics. Working in the intersections between history and collective memory she has developed new methods for studying and analysing photographic archives. Exhibiting regularly since the 2000’s, he has exhibited in Portugal, UK, India, Brazil and Belgium and is represented in several art collections. She is currently developing her research into private photographic archives and expanded photography.
