Nuno Filipe da Silva Fernandes de Castro

I am Associate Professor of Physics at the School of Sciences of the University of Minho, Portugal, and Researcher at the Portuguese Laboratory for Experimental Particle Physics (LIP). I am President of the Board of Directors of CNCA - National Centre for Advanced Computing . I am also a member of the ATLAS Collaboration at CERN since 2004, focusing mainly in the search for new physics phenomena, on the top quark sector and on advanced data analysis techniques. I have been convener of the Top Quark Properties (2012-2014); and Heavy Quarks, Top and Composite Higgs (2015-2016) Physics Subgroups. I have also been a member of the Speakers' Committee of the ATLAS Collaboration (2020-23) and co-convenor of the LHC working group for effective field theory (LHCEFTWG, 2020-22). I represent Portugal in the LHC Resources Review Board (ATLAS and CMS) and in the Finance Review Committees of the Amber, SND and Dune experiments at CERN. Previously, I represented Portugal in the CERN Council Workings Groups for Governance (2020-2024) and CERN's Geographical Enlargement Policy (2019). I was a member of the LIP's board of Directors (2017-2025) and local director of LIP at Minho between 2015 and 2025. At the Portuguese Physics Society I co-coordinate the Particle Physics Division and I am President of the Fiscal Council. At the University of Minho, I was Vice-President for Research and Scientific Innovation of the School of Sciences (2021-25) and Director of the Master in Physics (2019-21). I teach courses in general physics, computational physics, radiation physics, data analysis and particle physics at different levels (C1 to C3).
