He graduated from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in 2008 with a degree in Geographical Engineering. He completed his Ph.D. in Geophysics and Geoinformation at the University of Lisbon in 2013. Additionally, he worked as a research assistant at the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC) of the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) in Brazil for two years. Currently, he is a researcher at the Institute Dom Luiz (IDL) at FCUL. Pedro Mateus has dedicated his scientific career to the fields of Geodesy and Remote Sensing, with a specific focus on developing innovative techniques to mitigate atmospheric effects that degrade the accuracy of Remote Sensing methods, particularly Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Over the past decade, he has spearheaded the development of algorithms aimed at removing atmospheric artifacts from InSAR data, thereby enhancing the precision of Earth's surface deformation measurements. Additionally, he has pioneered novel approaches to address the inverse problem, leveraging atmospheric data to enhance Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. Pedro has fostered a robust synergy between the geodetic and meteorological communities throughout his career, advancing concepts in InSAR and GNSS meteorology. His primary research interests are in meteorological applications leveraging InSAR and GNSS technologies. Notably, he has devised GNSS tomographic algorithms to characterize and model the three-dimensional variability of water vapor in the troposphere. His methodologies encompass sophisticated numerical modeling techniques, including parameter estimation through complex inversion, image processing, and machine learning algorithms.
