Cláudia Silva holds a BSc in Biochemistry (2013) from the CESPU and an MSc in Applied Biochemistry (2015) from the University of Minho. In 2022, she obtained her PhD in Metabolism - Clinical and Experimental from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE. She has developed research work in the study of diseases (e.g. cancer, diabetes, obesity) pathophysiology, and the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the cellular uptake of nutrients, especially glucose and glutamine and how these mechanisms interfere with these pathologies. More recently, the use of waste, food industry by-products rich in bioactive compounds such as polyphenols with potential in the context of obesity, diabetes, and cancer, has also been his focus of interest. She has proven experience in different approaches such as, in vitro models (cell lines), in vivo models (animal models), in manipulation and processing of biological samples (tissues, cells, plasma, urine, stool and gastric juice), analysis of clinical databases and integration and interpretation of the obtained data using bioinformatics tools. Since the beginning of her research career, she published 28 ISI original papers and 1 book chapter. She has also presented her work at more than 50 national and international scientific meetings. Cláudia participated in BSc and MSc juries, contributed as a referee for international ISI-indexed journals and was a member of the organizing committee of scientific events. In addition, she has been responsible for co-supervising postgraduate and undergraduate students. She is an Invited Assistant Professor at FMUP, where she teaches Human Metabolism to the Medicine MSc. Additionally, she also is an invited lecturer in the Master's and Doctoral programs in Metabolism (FMUP). Cláudia operates in the areas of Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology and Microbiology), Health Sciences (Pharmacology, Toxicology, Nutrition, Dietetics, Oncology, Endocrinology and Metabolism) and food biotechnology.

2022/10/19 Press release about results obtained during my PhD project with professor Fátima Martel. This project was focussed on the identifying new molecular targets that link type 2 diabetes and initiation, promotion and progression of breast cancer and to development of new therapeutic approaches that prevent and control breast cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes.
