Dr Monteiro holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering (2020), from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)-University of Lisbon (UL). He concluded his MSc. in Marine and Coastal Sciences (2010) at the University of Aveiro, and a 5-year BSc. in Oceanography (2007) at the University of the Algarve. Currently, he is an integrated researcher in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group at Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE)-IST-UL and has recently been awarded a research contract within the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) competitive call of CEEC-Ind (2023.09489.CEECIND). He is the Principal Investigator of an exploratory project funded by FCT (SPECS - Speciation analysis schemes of platinum-group elements in environmental compartments through the combination of improved analytical methodologies - 2022.06832.PTDC). He has worked as a Research Fellow in 5 competitive projects (e.g., Interreg Atlantic Area project MONITOOL (EAPA_565/2016) and has collaborated in other 7, including two COST Actions. His work is focused on Geochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Oceanography. His main research interests are focused on understanding the biogeochemistry of trace elements, the environmental fate of contaminants, and the development/improvement of analytical methods for trace element analysis, particularly the ultra-trace determination of technology-critical elements. Dr Monteiro was awarded a PhD scholarship (SFRH/BD/111087/2015) by the FCT with the project 'Biogeochemistry of Platinum-group Elements in Aquatic Ecosystems'. He participated actively in the COST Action TD1407-NOTICE (2015-2019) supported by the EU(H2020) focusing on technology-critical elements, from their environmental processes to human health threats. Since his PhD graduation in 2020, Dr Monteiro has participated in 6 research project proposals seeking funds of ~1.5 M Euros and has been an evaluator of research projects (Poland). Recently, he coordinated the revision and is the main proposer of a COST Action under evaluation, establishing connections with 37 researchers from 19 European partners, Australia, and Canada. Other already solid collaborations include Spain, France, Egypt, and Argentina. In the past five years, he published 7 articles (h index=7; i10 index=7) in reputable international peer-reviewed journals, 5 as first author, and 5 published in multidisciplinary journals with an IF >6 (STOTEN, Talanta). He is also co-author of two book chapters in a volume dedicated to coastal and marine pollution. He actively participated in the organization of several scientific events, chairing a special session at ICOBTE&ICHMET Joint Conference, and has disseminated his work in 35 international/national events, with >50 communications (39 as the first author + 28 as co-author). He received 2 awards for best poster communication, and he was the recipient of funding to participate in 4 recognized international scientific meetings. He was responsible for the laboratory for over 5 years, also providing tutorial support to undergraduate students and co-supervising one MSc student. He has been actively engaged in collaborating with institutional programmes, e.g. IPMA-Escolas for children from 5 to 12 years. Within his professional activities as a researcher, he has interacted with more than 100 scientists worldwide.
