Marita A. Cardoso has a Bachelor degree in Bioengineering and a Master degree in Biotechnology and Food Quality, both obtained at University of Trás-Os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), and a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering obtained at University of Aveiro (UA). For the last 12 years, she got 8 research grants from different institutions/laboratories all around the country, namely UTAD/CQVR, UNL/ITQB, UA/CICECO, LAVQ/REQUIMTE and UTAD/BioISI, and in collaboration with industry UTAD/CQVR/POLO - Produtos Ópticos, S.A.. As outputs of these works, 15 papers were published (7 as first author), 2 patents (1 national and 1 international), 4 oral communications (1 with an honourable mention) and 15 poster communications. Moreover, 3 of her papers (2 as first author) were invited for front covers pictures and 1 was highlight in Advanced Science News. She was also invited to participate as main arguer of 3 Master's degree and 1 Bachelor dissertations. Her experience involves the synthesis of organic-inorganic hybrids by sol-gel method, ionic liquids, ionogels, ionosilicas, lanthanide complexes, carbon dots (Cdots) nanoparticles and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), surface functionalization and techniques of immobilization. The applications of these materials includes batteries, fuel cells, electrochromic devices for smart windows, luminescent solar concentrators, luminescent down-shifting layers and biosensors.
