Ana Patrícia da Silva Fernandes

Ana Patrícia da Silva Fernandes has a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering (2018), by the University of Aveiro. In January 2010, I was invited to perform research work in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC) on Environmental and Planning Department at UA. In October 2010, I was accepted as fellow in the Group of Emissions, Modelling and Climate Change (GEMAC). LAC and GEMAC are a research laboratory of the Centre for Environment and Marine Studies (CESAM), an Associate Laboratory of the UA. During my PhD work, I do a short-term mission at the Remote Sensing Research Group (Switzerland) for a period of 3 months to improve my knowledge in remote sensing. In July 2017, I was mother and I interrupt my research PhD work during 8 month (since March to October 2017). In May 2018, I obtained the doctorate degree on Environmental Sciences and Engineering. Since October 2018 at December 2019, I was Post-doctorate fellow in GEMAC. I've been a junior researcher at GEMAC and a fully integrated member of CESAM since 2020. At March 15th 2022, I was awarded (as part of the research group of GEMAC) with an honourable mention in the engineering research area in the scope of the Researcher Award 2021 of the UA. Since 2018, she is coordinator of one of the five thematic research lines of GEMAC, Risks (forest fires, industrial accidents, dust events, extreme precipitation), being responsible to elaborate research projects in this field, as well as to identify collaborations with other research groups, enterprise/companies or public sector. Her research interests includes: satellite data, Atmospheric aerosols, mineral dust, air quality modelling, data fusion, extreme fire behaviour, smoke emission and dispersion, emission factors, forest fires emissions, climate Change, extreme events, numerical modelling, aerial images, indoor air quality and sensors. During the last five years, she develop a widely range of activities at three main topics: research, technical and academic work. At research topic, Ana has participated in 8 national projects (funded by the FCT), one of them classified as a research line of excellence and 3 international projects Currently, I am collaborating on 3 national projects (FIRESTORM, SmokeStorm and FireSmoke) and 2 international projects (VESPRA and FirEUrisk). In these projects, her main activities include the application of multiscale air quality models, the quantification of smoke emissions and the fireline propagation assessment. She has been involved in the submission of a set of national and international projects; as PI, she submitted a proposal last FCT call (not funded). Currently, she is part of a research group preparing two new proposals to submit. Her research work has been recognized through the publication of 22 papers in international journals from the Science Citation Index, 2 book chapters, having an h-index of 10 (Scopus database). Furthermore, 9 of these papers resulted from international collaborations. Her work is mainly focused on application numerical models and development the pre and post processors of data. . She is an editorial reviewer for 6 international journals (Applied Sciences, Sensors, Land use policy, Atmospheric Pollution Research, Atmosphere, and Remote Sensing). Ana has disseminated her work in 33 international communications and 6 national communications. She also participated in science dissemination to the public in 8 oral communications. At technical topic, she has participated in 4 protocols (national and international), in a join collaboration between GEMAC and the IDAD-Institute of Environment and Development (interface unit of UA for services), producing 7 technical reports. At academic topic, she has teaching experience, having support some lessons. She has experience in scientific mentoring supervision supporting work of master students and submit one PhD research plan as Co-PI (not funded).
