Diana Vinagre is a cellist focused in the historically informed performance practice, having earned her Bachelor and Master degrees with distinction under the guidance of Jaap ter Linden in the Early Music Department of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands. As a consequence of the musicological research undertaken as a performer, Diana as devoted herself to the study of the cello in Portuguese music in the 18th and first half of the 19th centuries. Focusing in the role of the instrument in portuguese sacred repertoire and specifically in music with obbligati cellos and bassons from the royal court, Diana is presently waiting to defend her doctoral thesis in Universidade Nova de Lisboa - INET-md. In this context, she presented several papers regarding not only the repertoire with cello obbligato in Portugal, but also the socioeconomical status of the cellists in the period, namely the careers of some notable interpreters, like João Baptista André Avondano. Diana published the article "João Baptista André Avondano: An unusual formative journey under royal patronage" in Revista Portuguesa de Musicologia in 2018, being the article "The repertoire with obbligati cellos and bassons in the Portuguese Royal Chapels in the threshold of the 19th century" in the way to publish in 2021 as a chapter in Música en las cortes ibéricas (siglos XVIII XIX): ceremonial, artes del espectáculo y representación del poder, by SEDEM-Sociedad Española de Musicologia/ICCMU/INET-md in Madrid. As first cello of Lisbon based baroque orchestra Divino Sospiro between 2006 and 2017, Diana extensively performed portuguese baroque and classical repertoire under the direction of Enrico Onofri, such as several works in modern première, such as works by Mazzoni, Pedro António Avondano João de Sousa Carvalho, António Teixeira, David Perez and António Leal Moreira. In 2009, Diana founded Ensemble Bonne Corde, an early music ensemble centered in 18th century cello repertoire, developing an intense work of recovering unkown works, notably of Portuguese composers. In this context we can underline projects with the strings quartets of João de Almeida Mota and sacred works with obbligati cellos and bassons specific of the Portuguese royal chapel from Antonio Puzzi, António da Silva Gomes e Oliveira, Marcos Portugal, José do Espírito Santo e Oliveira, among others. In the near future, we can highlight the first modern recording of the Concerti grossi op.1 of António Pereira da Costa, only piece of the genre among Portuguese known repertoire for the belgian label Ramée in October 2021, with the support of Fundação GDA and Direcção Geral das Artes (Portuguese Ministery of Culture). Since 2005, Diana develops an intense activity as a free-lance baroque cellist with several renowned European groups, such as Orchestra of the 18th century, L’Arpegiatta, Cappella Mediterranea, B’Rock Orchestra, Ludovice Ensemble, Les Arts Florissants, Orquestra Barroca de Sevilla, Orchestra of The Age of Enlightenment, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Holland Baroque, Al Ayre Español, Les Passions de l’Âme, and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, and worked under the direction of René Jacobs, Christophe Coin, Enrico Onofri, Laurence Cummings, Mark Elder, Vladimir Jurowsky, Simon Murphy, Bartold Kuijken, Christina Pluhar, Elizabeth Wallfisch, Alfredo Bernardini, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Frans Bruggen, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Alexis Kossenko, Chiara Banchini, among others. In 2015 and 2016 Diana conveived and was artistic director of Reencontros, a festival of medieval and renascence music based in Sintra Nacional Palace. Upcoming projects include the participation, as founder, artistic direction and musician of Real Câmara, a baroque orchestra lead my italian violinist Enrico Onofri, based in the Royal Palace of Ajuda, in Lisbon.
