Fábio Jorge Sousa Trindade

Fábio Trindade graduated in Biochemistry (2012) and obtained a Master's in Biochemistry with specialisation in Clinical Biochemistry in 2014 at the University of Aveiro (UA). His Master's project, carried out at the Mass Spectrometry Centre - QOPNA, focused on the "Influence of periodontitis on salivary peptidome and proteases". In 2015, he was awarded a doctoral fellowship, under the topic "Proteomic changes in incomplete reverse remodelling - a closer look at the heart through myocardial and pericardial fluid analysis" and moved to iBiMED (Institute of Biomedicine, UA) and UnIC (Unidade de Investigação Cardiovascular, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, FMUP). In January 2020, he completed his PhD degree in Biomedicine (UA) with honours. Later, he was a postdoc on the project "New targets in diastolic heart failure: from comorbidities to personalized medicine (NETDIAMOND)". Since his second postdoc, and now as a researcher at UnIC, he has been devoted to aortic valve stenosis, mainly applying proteomics as a means to uncover sex-specific therapeutic targets and biomarkers. Ever since his graduation project, Fábio Trindade has been applying proteomics approaches (e.g., peptidomics and phosphoproteomics) to the study of disease mechanisms, biomarker research and fishing of novel therapeutic targets, resorting to different biological samples, from tissues (e.g., aortic valves, myocardium) to biofluids, such as pericardial fluid, saliva or urine. Until now, he has published 38 articles in peer-reviewed international journals (14 as first, 1 as senior author) and 6 international book chapters. He has also been invited as an ad hoc reviewer in international journals, including Journal of Proteomics, Bioactive Materials, Vascular Pharmacology or ESC Heart Failure. His works have been presented at national and international congresses (e.g., European Bioinformatics Community Winter School 2019, Meeting for Young Scientists in Proteomics 2021, Heart Failure 2023, 92nd EAS congress 2023). In 2020, he was invited to participate in the Portuguese Congress of Cardiology, as a speaker in the round table "Aortic stenosis and coronary disease: more resemblances than differences". He has won the execution of 3 EPIC-XS projects (proteomics) and is a team member on other projects (NETDIAMOND, DOCNET, Cardio-NIR, , VASCUL-AID (Horizon)). He has fulfilled a scientific mission at the University of Skövde (Sweden, 2017), as he was awarded a COST Action BM1307 (PROTEOSTASIS) grant for Short-Term Scientific Missions. His work has been recognised by an independent research association (AIDFM-CETERA), which considered the paper "Towards the standardization of stem cell therapy studies for ischemic heart diseases: Bridging the gap between animal models and the clinical setting" as one of the "Best Scientific Article Award 2017" (Top 3) in the topic "Cardiovascular Research". Fábio Trindade has lectured in scientific workshops related to proteomics and bioinformatics and recently co-organized the workshop “In vitro models of Cardiovascular Diseases”. He teaches Molecular Biology at the postgraduate level at FMUP. He has participated with different roles (supervisor, arguer and president) in 13 academic juries (9 MSc and 4 PhD defences). He has supervised 3 master's students and currently supervises 1 undergraduate, 1 master's and 2 PhD students. He is the Young Researchers and Innovators Leader of the COST Action AtheroNET (Network for implementing multiomics approaches in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease prevention and research) WG3 (Standardisation and harmonization of research) [atheronet.eu]. He is also member of the EU-METAHEART COST Action, European Atherosclerosis Society and European Society of Cardiology, having recently published a scientific statement on the mechanism and clinical significance of myocardial reverse remodelling (Eur J Heart Fail, 10.1002/ejhf.3264).
