Dr Ana Filipa Palmeirim completed her Bachelor Degree in Biology in 2008 and her Master in Conservation Biology in 2010, both at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. She completed her PhD in Ecology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In her PhD, Dr Palmeirim examined the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on biodiversity as induced by a hydroelectric reservoir in Central Brazilian Amazonia. Also in 2017, she started a Postdoc position in the same University, examining the relative effects of habitat amount and configuration at the landscape-scale on species diversity across the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. In 2018, Dr Palmeirim moved to the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, China, where she was distinguished with an 'Outstanding Researcher' award. During her time in China, she implemented a project aiming to assess the ecological impacts of habitat loss and fragmentation across four hydroelectric reservoirs spanning across three countries in Southeast Asia. In 2019, Dr Palmeirim was granted with an Individual Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Fellowship, and she moved to the University of East Anglia, UK. During her MSCA fellowship, she investigated extended the network theory to predict whole-landscape scale impacts from habitat loss and insular fragmentation on eight taxonomic groups, using previously collected data from the same insular fragmented landscape where she carried out her PhD. In 2021, Dr Palmeirim joined the EC-funded TROPIBIO project (https://cibio-tropibio.pt/en/), based at CIBIO-InBio/Associação BIOPOLIS, linked to the University of Porto, Portugal, as a Postdoctoral researchers. In this project, she conducted research in the Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, having stablished links in Guinea-Bissau, Angola and Sao Tomé and Princípe. Early 2024, Dr Palmeirim joined EcoHealth Alliance, an NGO in the USA, as a consultancy-researcher, working at the interface between ecology and human health. Early 2025, Dr Palmeirim became a Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Pará. Dr Palmeirim was the main supervisor of seven MSc students, and three BSc students. Dr Palmeirim has reviewed manuscripts for 40 journals, has been part of the editorial academy of the Journal of Biogeography and is currently an editor in three scientific journals. Dr Palmeirim has an H-index of 16. In total, Dr Palmeirim authored 53 peer-reviewed publications, from which she is first author in 23 and the senior author in 10, in addition to one book chapter. Currently, she has 10 manuscripts under review.
