Motivated to research more about the chemistry of natural compounds I obtained my undergraduate and Master’s in chemistry at the University of Porto (UP), Portugal. My PhD studies supported by FCT (SFRH/BD/51477/2011) jointly conducted at UP enabled me to spend one year in Prof. Olivera’s group at the University of Utah, USA. Distinguished Prof. Olivera is the founder of the conotoxin field and has pioneered their use as human pharmaceuticals and as reagents to study ion channel structure and function. One of the peptides discovered by Prof. Olivera and co-workers has become an approved drug for intractable pain (Prialt). His group has numerous active projects in other areas of conotoxin research such as their biodiversity and chemical synthesis. Prof. Olivera maintains >30 patents for toxins with promising therapeutic properties and has published >600 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Science, Cell and Nature. I have ongoing collaborations with Prof. Baldomero Olivera and Prof. Eric W. Schmidt (The University of Utah), Prof. Helena Safavi (University of Copenhagen). Action to obtain funding. I have been submitting projects at national and international funding agencies. For example, I submitted applications to: (1)FCT Call for R&D Projects in All Scientific Domains;(2) Project Call 2017-The Future Ocean, University of Kiel, Germany;(3)Marie Curie Actions-European Commission (Proposal-SEP-210692519, Proposal-SEP-210783878);(4)Aga-Khan/FCT programme (Aga-Khan 2019: MAR4AFRICA proposal); and I participated in the writing of the H2020 funded project – EMERTOX (GA 778069). Experience in teaching and mentoring.I got the Assistant Professor (AP) position at UniCV to teach (more than 400 students) chemistry, toxicology and ecotoxicology in graduate course Marine Biology. Indicators of research independence.I got my Post-doc grant in 2018,CIIMAR. I have been involved in EU projects: Postdoc funded by the project AlertoxNet (3M€); H2020 EMERTOX, writing and management (702K€).I published paper as first author and correspondent author and I already submitted several projects as PI and Co-PI (e.g., Marie Curie, Aga-Kahn-FCT, and Field works fund by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation). Overall, during my short career as a young researcher, I am author of 17 publications, including: peer-reviewed papers (e.g., paper in top4 of the research area; Organic Letters2015 IF 6.364, Front Pharmacol.2021.IF 4.225; Mar. Drugs 2019, 2013, IF 3.978); book chapters (Springer Nature,2022, eBook ISBN: 978-3-030-91843-9); papers in conference proceeding. I did several oral and poster communications in international and national conferences, and I wrote more than 15 projects technical reports including deliverables. In addition, I published 8 scientific books, 8 science guides, 2016–2019 https://minedu.gov.cv/manuais; and I am reviewer of the international journal TOXICON (reviewerhub.elsevier.com). I supervised several undergraduate students and a master's student in Cellular and Molecular Biology at FCUP-CIIMAR's (19/20value; Register11006022M201604362). I have coordinated and organized: 3 European projects meetings, 2 workshops, 1 international congress, and 3 Stakeholders meetings.

2020/02/06 - 2020/02/07 European Commission|All-Atlantic Ocean Research. The AA Ocean Research Forum did showcase results and solutions for our citizens and communities from Antarctica to the Arctic, which this cooperation has produced so far, and planned the further implementation of the Galway and Belém Statements. The Forum paid particular attention to the projected changes the Atlantic Ocean and its ecosystems undergo, as outlined in the IPCC Special Report on Oceans and Cryosphere and the IPBES Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.

2015/10/12 American Chemical Society. Natural Products: Although known for their paralyzing polypeptides, cone snails also use a guanine derivative to disable their prey. Just before engulfing a tasty meal of a fish or a marine worm, a cone snail paralyzes its prey by injecting it with venom from a harpoonlike tooth. Scientists previously identified the paralyzing compounds in cone snail venom as polypeptides. Some of them have even been developed into pain medication for people, such as the synthetic injectable drug ziconotide (Prialt). American Chemical Society
