He obtained his MSc degree in Chemical Engineering from FEUP in July 2016, with a final mark of 17 (out of 20). During his MSc thesis, he conducted research work at Bondalti. His scientific journey began in September 2016 at LEPABE as a research fellow in the LEPABE-2-ECO-INNOVATION project (ref. NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000005) ¿ focusing on a thermodynamic study of the valorization of olive mill wastewater (OMW) through steam reforming. In 2016, he earned an FCT doctoral grant and commenced his PhD work. The activities over these 5 years were centered around his PhD thesis, which he successfully concluded (PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering at FEUP) in October 2021. He developed a sorption-enhanced membrane reactor to treat OMW through the reforming reaction, promoting H2 production with CO2 capture and H2 separation. He has also been involved in another project related to OMW valorization (VERPRAZ - ref. NORTE 01-0247-FEDER-39789), in collaboration with Adventech®. He participated as an external researcher, attending meetings and conducting catalytic tests. Additionally, he worked as an external service provider for the Chemical Engineering Department of FEUP (08/2021), performing project activities involving the interpretation of project results. He was also involved in a project (Postdoctoral fellow at LSRE/LCM) related to the development of multifunctional reactors for use in the steam reforming of agro-industrial wastewaters (HyGreen&LowEmissions - ref. NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000077). In 2021/2022, he served as an Invited Professor, teaching classes for the Physics course unit at FEUP. He supervised 4 students (internships and master¿s dissertations). He is a member of the research team that won the prestigious 'Scientific Challenge - Edition 3' by Air Liquide for the 'Energy Storage using Essential Small Molecules' topic. In connection with this award, Cláudio Rocha is a reserach member of the Cycon project, a collaborative initiative with Air Liquide, focusing on converting CO2 into CH4 using renewable H2. Additionally, he is the team leader for the Hydroazeite project (application accepted in the BIP PROOF program, funded by U.Porto Innovation), which is focused on the development of an adsorptive reactor with CO2 capture at a pilot scale. The project aims to increase the TRL of the technology, producing pure hydrogen through the steam reforming process of olive oil mill wastewater. He has been focused on fostering connections with several companies and applying for international funding. Additionally, he is participating in the European project Novaterra (ref. H2020-SFS-2018-2020) as a stakeholder in collaboration with international entities. Finally, it is important to note that an international internship at the University of Salamanca is scheduled for February 2024. The internship will involve the preparation and characterization of CO2 sorbents as well as conducting a seminar. Throughout his research and development career, he has published 14 papers in international journals with peer review (9 as the first author and 1 as the last author), reporting the preparation and characterization of catalysts/CO2 sorbents and processes for the treatment/valorization of agro-industrial liquid wastes in multifunctional reactors (all in Q1/Q2 quartiles according to Web of Science), achieving 170 citations, and holding an h-index of 7 (Scopus, January 2024). He has also co-authored 9 abstracts published in international peer-reviewed conference proceedings (6 as oral communications). Additionally, he co-edited 1 book of abstracts for an international conference (4th Doctoral Congress in Engineering (DCE) - Symposium on Chemical and Biological Engineering). He regularly serves as a reviewer for 14 high-ranked peer-reviewed journals (Q1/Q2 quartiles ¿ Elsevier, MDPI and Wiley), having reviewed up to now 40 manuscripts.
