André Beirão da Cruz is a biologist and neuroscientist with a deep passion for animal behavior, both human and non-human. His academic journey has spanned multiple disciplines, integrating biology, cognitive neuroscience, and anthropology, which has provided him with a unique perspective on animal behavior and social dynamics. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Lisbon, ISA - Instituto Superior de Agronomia (2017), where he developed a foundational understanding of biological sciences and environmental interactions. He later pursued a Master's degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Neurosciences at ISPA - Instituto Universitário de Ciências Psicológicas, Sociais e da Vida (2021), where he graduated with a Diploma of Merit. His master's research focused on cognitive and behavioral adaptations in animals, setting the stage for his continued interest in social behaviors, group cohesion, communication, and personality. He was involved with the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) captive breeding center in Silves, Portugal. In 2019, he joined Kyoto University's Wildlife Research Center (WRC) to develop his master's thesis. Following this, he was offered a research assistant position (2022) to continue his work alongside the team, with whom he later published a first-author paper on lateralization in feral horses in Behavioural Processes (2023). Currently, he is furthering his academic career with a Master's degree in Anthropology at the NOVA University of Lisbon - School of Social Sciences and Humanities (2024), specializing in Primatology and Environment. His research interests align with social living, conflict resolution and pro-social behavior. Deeply committed to scientific communication and committed to the idea of making meaningful contributions to science and hopefully society.
