Dr. Chris Hebert Franco, b. 1989, is currently a researcher at CQE, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He completed BSc (2011), MSc (2014), and PhD (2018) in Chemistry from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF, Brazil). His PhD thesis comprised the synthesis and catalytic applications of coordination polymers (CPs), along with X-ray crystallography. After PhD he also worked as an Assistant Professor (2018-2020) to teach theoretical-practical classes to BSc students (6 different subjects, 18 h/week). In this two-year period, his research at UFJF/Brazil was mainly devoted to structural characterization of small molecules [Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)]. He participated in several research projects on the synthesis and characterization of CPs and catalytic systems. He also established partnerships with researchers from several universities, and (co)supervised undergraduate and MSc students, resulting in over 20 research papers. In last years, he has been focusing on coordination chemistry, catalysis, crystal engineering and bioinorganic chemistry, with an emphasis on the synthesis and characterization of MOFs and CPs. Dr. Franco also became interested in the areas of 3D electron diffraction and mechanochemistry as important topics to shape the professional future. He is a member of Electron Crystallography division of the European Crystallographic Association (SIG4) to promote scientific activities in the field of Electron Crystallography. He is an author of 40 Peer-reviewed Publications, including: 28 Research Papers (> 20 published since PhD), 5 Book Chapters, 2 Theses/dissertations, and 5 publications in conference proceedings. Furthermore, while working in Portugal, he was able to establish collaborations with other researchers and universities in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, India, Poland, and Italy, as well as with a company developing electronic diffraction hardware and software. He has been involved in teaching since 2018 and looks forward to continuing his scientific career.

Conference (Member of the Organising Committee)
Universidade de Lisboa Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal
2023/09 - 2023/09 CRYSTALOGRAPHY is the BASIC SCIENCE that investigates the STRUCTURE of matter, from minerals to medicines, from food to electronics and energy, from simple molecules like diamonds to the complicated building blocks of proteins, nucleic acids and even viruses. Given that the mitigation of most societal challenges implies the development of new materials and a better understanding of processes at an atomic level, crystallography assumes a fundamental role in solving several of these problems in the future, namely in the search for sustainable solution (2023/09)
