Ana Luísa Patrício Silva graduated in Biology and Geology (University of Algarve, 2003), has an MSc degree in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (University of Porto, 2006), and a PhD in Biology and Environmental Sciences (University of Aveiro and Aarhus University, 2015). She is currently a junior researcher at the Department of Biology & CESAM, University of Aveiro, with a research line focused on the biodegradation and ecotoxicological effect of plastics, macro-to micro-sized, fuel- or bio-based, on soil and aquatic environments (Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus 2018). More recently, she started a research line focused on developing sustainable strategies for e-waste treatment and resource recovery/valorisation using microorganisms. She published 45 scientific papers, with >80% in Q1 WoS indexed journals, in the last three years (h-index 22, over 3500 citations in Google Scholar, as of Jan 2024), being among the 2% highly cited researchers in 2022 (Elsevier Data Repository: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.6). She is involved in several R&D projects concerning emerging contaminants, highlighting the research project BioPlasMar, which aims at plastic removal and valorisation of marine resources through new product development (PTDC/CTA-AMB/0934/2021). She recently coordinated a national R&D project in microplastics (COMPET-POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030361; total funding 240k euros). She was involved in several science dissemination activities (5 keynotes at international congresses and 2 Workshops on microplastics), supervising 1 PhD student, 5 MSc students (principal supervisor), and 5 MSc fellows. She was responsible for the financial support of 2 PhD junior researchers within the research project ComPET. She currently supervises 1 PhD student (REF: 2022.11335.BD). She participated in the UNEP Rapid Response Assessment (RRA) on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on marine litter and plastic pollution (https://www.dropbox.com/s/s51ntk40405ixa6/Covid%20plastic%20RRA_invitation_silva%20copy.pdf?dl=0), peer-reviewed over 100 papers (K-1919-2013), 5 ANR research projects, and was/is guest editor of several special issues with renowned researchers.
