Márcio Martins finished his Master's in Marine Biology in 2018, in the University of Algarve, where he began his PhD in 2020 after working as a researcher in "Centro de Ciências do Mar", with a focus on Blue Carbon, ecosystem services and coastal habitat mapping. He has co-authored a total of 3 articles. Additionally, he is an environmental education volunteer since, participating in several regional and and local events that have warranted him a Merit Certificate from the Portuguese Environmental Agency. His main study interests are related to geospatial analysis, ecosystem services and machine learning methods.

At the request of teacher I met during other events, I went to schools to talk to students about climate change, ecosystem services and blue carbon. When possible, we also had field trips to see different coastal vegetated habitats and compare carbon sequestration across them.
