I graduated in Applied Biology in 2008, followed by the completion of a Master's program in Plant Molecular Physiology in 2010. In 2015, I finished my PhD, with a thesis titled ¿Study of grapevine solute transporters involved in berry quality. A biochemical and molecular approach¿, in which I explored the impact of several transmembrane transporters in grapevine physiology. Throughout my career, I aimed at understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms behind grapevine physiology and published several research articles (>20). As a postdoctoral researcher, I've focused on studying grapevine woody tissues' response to bud burst and cold acclimatization, uncovering critical insights into starch remobilization pathways after RNAseq analysis of grapevine canes. This research has not only shed light on sugar mobilization and cell wall reorganization in woody tissues but also revealed the accumulation of specialized plant metabolites, such as stilbenoids, with promising biotechnological applications. I also elucidated the role of the grapevine aquaporin NIP2;1 in Si transport and showed that the raffinose synthase 5 is involved in the accumulation of RFOs in grapevine woody tissues following cold stress. Also, my research showed that plastids and plastidial transporters, such as the phosphoenolpyruvate/phosphate translocator, are fundamental in the synthesis of important grapevine metabolites involved in berry and wine quality, such as isoprenoids and anthocyanins. Besides these scientific outputs, I have been deeply involved in teaching activities (Invited Professor), in the Department of Biology at University of Minho, and I have supervised six master students and one PhD student.
