Luísa completed her BSc in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences in 2022, obtaining dual licensure in Clinical Analysis & Public Health and Pathology, Cytology & Thanatology. That same year, she began her MSc in Health Sciences at the University of Minho, where she conducted an internship under Dr. Luísa Pinto's supervision, investigating cytogenesis in brain physiology and behavior. She subsequently devoted two years to developing her master's thesis, "Impact of Modulating Hippocampal Dentate Gyrus Adult-Born Cells in the Context of Depression and Psilocybin Treatment," which she successfully defended on January 27, 2025. During her master's Luísa obtained her license for animal experimentation from DGAV. Moreover, Luísa's research earned her a travel award to NEURO2024 in Fukuoka, Japan, where she presented at the prestigious conference themed "Deciphering the Mind: Transcending Borders for the Future." She also received a travel grant from the Brain Organoid and Systems Neuroscience Journal to present at Eurogenesis 2024, a leading developmental neurobiology conference in Bordeaux, France. While completing her thesis, Luísa contributed to multiple research projects within her group, resulting in a paper submission in January 2025 titled "Chronic Stress and Cytogenesis Ablation Disrupt Hippocampal Neuron Connectivity, with Fluoxetine Restoring Function with Sex-Specific Effects." Throughout her academic career, Luísa demonstrated commitment to scientific outreach by volunteering for the "Brain Awareness Week" at the University of Minho School of Medicine and the Native scientist iniciative. In August 2025, Luísa Obtained a FCT PhD fellowship to develop her project entitled "Zinc transporter-3 as a novel target for fast and long-lasting antidepressant actions" . This work has granted her team 800,000 euros in funding from the renowned British foundation Wellcome, under the “Mental Health” program. This work is currently being developed in collaboration with University of Minho, ICVS and King's College London.
