Antoine Simões Almeida earned a Master's degree (2017) and a Bachelor's degree (2015) in Biochemistry from the University of Aveiro. Since 2017, he has been a Research Fellow at the Department of Chemistry and CESAM, University of Aveiro. His master's research on the inflammatory potential of inhalable organic aerosols in urban environments resulted in a publication featured on the front cover of Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T, Journal impact factor 2024: 11.3; Q1 (95.1%) in Environmental Sciences). He also published a review in Environmental Pollution (Journal impact factor 2024: 7.3; Q1 (87.6%) in Environmental Sciences) addressing the oxidative and inflammatory effects of water-soluble aerosol extracts. Antoine has co-authored two book chapters and four articles, co-organized a workshop, and is currently co-editing a book scheduled for publication in early 2026. As a research fellow, he contributed to the projects "Exploring the impact of atmospheric organic deposition in the ocean surface in a changing climate scenario" (Reference: IF/00798/2015/CP1302/CT0015) and "AMBIEnCE - Impact of atmospheric multi-stressors to coastal marine systems in a changing climate scenario." (Reference: PTDC/CTA-AMB/28582/2017). Currently, as a PhD fellow funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, he investigates the role of water-soluble organic matter and its structural components in the oxidative and immunomodulatory effects of fine urban air particles (Reference: 2020.05804.BD; https://doi.org/10.54499/2020.05804.BD). He is also a team member of the ATMODOR European research project, funded by the ECIU. His research interests include analytical and environmental chemistry, with emphasis on water-soluble organic matter from air particles, their biological and toxicological effects, and the chemical aging, deposition, and biological interactions of atmospheric organic particles.
