Gladys Caldeira

Gladys Lima Caldeira holds a degree in Genetics and Biotechnology (2010) from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, a Master’s in Cell and Molecular Biology with a specialization in Neurobiology (2012), and a PhD in Biomedicine and Experimental Biology (2017), from the University of Coimbra. She spent several years working in basic research, focusing on how mutations in genes encoding synaptic proteins contribute to the development of neuropsychiatric disorders. She later pursued medical training and completed her medical degree in 2022. She is currently working as a Family Medicine Resident. Her main interests lie in the development of strategies to promote health and enhance overall well-being, with a particular focus on healthy and active aging. She is especially interested in the implementation of social prescribing projects for older adults, aiming to reduce loneliness and improve quality of life. Additionally, she is committed to raising awareness among family doctors about the importance of recognizing genetic cancer syndromes and ensuring timely referral for oncogenetic counseling, thus promoting a more preventive and personalized approach to healthcare.
