Ana Margarida Sampaio is presently a research assistant on legume breeding at ITQB-NOVA, currently under the project "Grain Legume Conservation and Breeding Program (Common bean)" at Genetics and Genomics of Plant Complex Traits (PlantX) Lab. She graduated in 2013 in Genetics and Biotechnology at University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. She obtained her MSc degree in 2015 at University of Minho, on Introducing resistance genes against three viruses infections in two tomato varieties, work developed at Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). In February 2021, she completed her Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, awarded by New University of Lisbon, jointly supervised by Maria Carlota Vaz Patto (ITQB-NOVA), Diego Rubiales (IAS-CSIC) and Susana Araújo (ITQB-NOVA, BLC3). Her Ph.D. project was focused in unravelling the genetic control of Fusarium oxysporum resistance in Lathyrus sativus. As Ph.D. student, Ana Margarida was mainly hosted at ITQB-NOVA in Portugal, with part of the work being developed at IAS-CSIC, Córdoba, Spain and University of Córdoba, Spain. During this period she improved the knowledge on plant-pathogen interaction, plant disease resistance and molecular breeding approaches, such as genome-wide association studies. In the last year, she published 3 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, all as first author. She contributed with 7 poster presentations and 2 oral presentations in national and international congresses. She has received 2 awards and/or honors. She participated in 2 national projects (FCT-funded and EU-funded ), and in research networks, namely within COST Action FP1406.
