C. S. Neves is a Researcher at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering – CICECO, University of Aveiro, where she has been working since 2014. She holds a Degree in Chemistry with specialization in Quality Control of Plastic Materials (University of Minho, 2006), a Master’s degree in Environmental Management (University of Minho, 2009), and a PhD in Sustainable Chemistry (University of Porto, 2014). Her academic path has been dedicated to nanostructured materials, sustainable coatings, and advanced materials characterization. She has authored/co-authored 26 SCI-indexed publications and 1 book chapter, accumulating more than 800 citations and an h-index of 15 (SCOPUS, Jan/2026). Her scientific output further includes invited talks and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. She has received several distinctions, including the Young Scientist Award at the E-MRS Spring Meeting (2013), the Best Paper Award at the XI International Conference on Nanostructured Materials (2012), and the Product Development Hackathon Award at Jornadas CICECO (2022). She also contributes as Guest Editor in international journals and regularly acts as reviewer for leading publications in the field. C. S. Neves has also supervised/co-supervised 8 MSc dissertations, 4 Erasmus+ traineeships, and several undergraduate project works, contributing to the training of students across different academic levels. She has been directly involved in more than 12 national and international research projects (Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, FP7, FCT, and industry-linked initiatives), covering areas such as smart and sustainable coatings, nanostructured additives, layered materials, corrosion protection, nutrient-capture nanoclays, and multifunctional polymer systems. In addition, she has served as Principal Investigator in competitive European access programmes (NFFA-Europe and SOLEIL Synchrotron) and has maintained active participation in scientific event organization, editorial duties, peer-review activities, and international scientific boards. Her main scientific interests include nanostructure engineering, environmentally sustainable and multifunctional coatings, polymer composites, and advanced materials characterization for corrosion protection, controlled release, biocomposites, and environmentally oriented functional applications. She is also proficient in Atomic Force Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, rheology, and a variety of physicochemical characterization techniques applied to functional micro- and nanostructured materials.
